I teach at a Catholic Elementary School, and do not earn much. Nor do my
colleagues. Every one of us could find gainful employment less than a block
away and more than double our salaries, but do not. Recently, when asked why
I do not do so, I replied that I could not imagine teaching a single lesson
without some mention of God and His gift of talent to each and every one of my
students. It is His gift to us, and what we do with it is our gift to Him. I
guess I "pay" for that privilege. It is a bill I do not mind. Now, my
electric bill has just about doubled this winter season, as my studio has an
electric baseboard heater! Ouch. That one does hurt!
