Crayola Washable Paint :-(

HELP!!!! I have been trying to teach mixing primary colors into secondary
colors in my kindergarten art classes. We are using Crayola Washable Tempera
paints. The secondary colors turned out not at all true, and when we mixed
red, yellow and blue to make brown mud, it dried into a lovely lavender color
by the next day (definitely NOT what we wanted). I have been using
fingerpainting paper with and/or without gel media mixer. It is so weird. I
called Crayola and they said they hadn't had any other complaints. This is
the second year with this problem for me. Anyone else experience this?!?!?!?
PS -- never had this problem with Crayola paint that was not labeled
"washable"!
