First, you should always proofread your e-mail. You had several errors in your letter.

I have a few pointers for you in substituting. You should always collect the assignments whether the teacher says to or not. Students will not work if they have no goal for that class.

Assign credit for work completed by the students. Ask the teacher to give this credit to the students.
