I think you have the right idea. Because you are new to the
students, your classroom management is going to be different than their
familiar teacher's. If I were you, I would stick to a demerit system.
Sometimes kids get out of line and all they need is a simple warning to
stop their unacceptable behavior. As for your other rules, it is very
essential to stick with them. This creates a consistent classroom which is
what students need in order to know what is expected of them and how they
can behave. Eventually, the students will feel comfortable in your
classroom and respect you for the classroom setting you have created.
