I am very strict about work completion. When 75% or so of the kids are done with a project we have one more day of lab work in class. Students who are done with the project do their evaluation. Other students have one last day of lab time to work. Their projects and evaluations are due 10 school days after the last in class project day. Kids know this and parents sign a letter with that information at the beginning of the semester. After five school days I check for completion. Any student not done recieves a phone call home and a note to their homeroom teacher. After the first set of phone calls home I have almost no problems with work completion. ( I am available in my room 4 afternoons and 2 mornings each week.) I keep a log of which students come in for extra lab time. This allows me to extend and make judgments about work completion on a case by case basis. Work not turned in by the final due date goes down one grade per day. I ask for, and receive, much valuable help from parents in getting work done. mlh
