Dear Bunki, Judie, et al,

I think I may have overstated the failure problem. There have only been
about 3 or 4 failing grades in middle school art this year, and each of
those was at least partly due to failure to turn in sketchbooks. I think
the suggestion that I reduce the weight of the sketchbooks on the overall
art grade might be a good idea, but I'll have to do that after the end of
this year.

The middleschool sketchbooks are well worth my efforts and theirs for many
reasons which I feel are obvious, and most of the students seem to enjoy
them. However, the sketchbooks are new this year, which is part of my
rational for making such a big fuss about the due dates. I do not intend to
maintain this level of coddling in the future, at least with the 7th and
8th grade.

I would like to hear continuing input on grade formulas. How do you weight
sketchbooks with other assignments? I go through a lot of Post-It-Notes for
individual comments when grading sketchbook assignments. How do the rest of
you sketchbook assigners do it?

Thanks, Mark
