Just a few thoughts. I agree with everyone who has responded so far about
insulting people. We can disagree with the message without calling people
names, please. If we don't like advice, do we have to take it? But, maybe
someone out there has some interest.

I also do agree with those who think punishing students by giving them
written work to do are wrong. I taught English and journalism for years,
too and writing needs to be something people want to do even when it's
hard, not punishment. I really like giving them extra cleaning jobs to do.
It helps me and the classroom management and it's not severe. After all,
how many of us like to clean anyway?

Also, I liked the posts on appearances. I, too, cannot dress up for two
reasons. It's so dirty all the time and it's too uncomfortable. My mood is
better when I'm comfortable. So, i do wear denim, whether pants, skirts,
jumpers and comfortable shoes all the time. I have the rare discipline
problem, maybe because I am older. Each discipline problem needs to be
handled in its particular way, too. I think attitude is a prime factor,
staying calm, being really interested in the students, and being
"oneself."

Thanks for all the good tips and ideas; let's give everyone a say and if
you don't like someone's message, DELETE.

Carl, I was getting a little tired of DENIAL is not a river in Egypt, but
what's the big deal?Stay on the list and give some good ideas for all.
