re: woven thoughts

To Gina,
I also teach weaving to K-6, one day weaving and one day art. In the weaving
classes I teach an introduction to fibers series and mostly tapestry
techniques. We have even done a beautiful tapestry with the third grade that
the students designed and wove themselves, which is now up in the auditorium.

For books on weaving, I always have several in the classroom for students to
read when they are waiting for my help. My favorites: 1)"The Goat in the
Rug", by Geraldine (the Goat); 2)"Charlie Needs A Cloak", by Tomie dePaola;
3)"Warm as Wool", by Scott Russell Sanders; 4)"Argyle", by Barbara Brooks
Wallace; 5)"The Cotton in Your T-Shirt", by Aline Riquier; 6) "The Enchanted
Tapestry", by Robert D. San Souci.

The teachers really love the weaving, and when I'm not there they use
weaving time as a reward. I also use the weaving to help the teachers
reinforce math skills for the young ones.
