<< In my opinion, a tongue ring and eyebrown ring
and combat boots are not professional dress. People will make judgements
about you and about art. >>
I wanted to relay a little story from when I was working in a local school in
my area. I was a visiting artist for about a month on and off. There was a
full time art teacher. Very nice woman, very creative. But everybody laughed
at her--from the kids to faculty and administration. Nobody took her
seriously. Outrageous makeup and dress, laidback easy manner of the flower
child, etc. She was full of good ideas and LOVED art and kids. But the kids
never got past her makeup and her ideas were never realized. She made NO
contribution to the school because everyone just blew her off as being too
flakey. Maybe she could have gotten away with it had she had a different
personality. But even then, the way she presented herself was a BIG obstacle.
Just food for thought.
