RON JONES NAMED NAEA CONVENTION COORDINATOR FOR 1999
RESTON, VA-NAEA President Michael Day announced the appointment of Dr. Ron
Jones as the 1999 NAEA convention program coordinator to be held in
Washington, DC. "Dr. Jones is a long time member of NAEA," said Day, "and
will do an exemplary job in coordinating some 750 sessions and events for
3,500 to 4,000 delegates. His administrative background and skills are a
perfect match for the tasks of convention management."
Dr. Jones is Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the Stephen F. Austin
State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and is a former Dean of the School
of Arts and Humanities at Shepherd College, W.Va. He has been a presenter
at many NAEA conventions and was coordinator for the Super Sessions at
NAEA's previous convention in Washington. Jones received the Distinguished
Alumnus of the University of Maryland in 1995. He started his professional
career as a secondary art teacher in Virginia.
"We are delighted to be working with a scholar with administrative
know-how," said NAEA Executive Director, Thomas A. Hatfield. "Such
combinations are rare and Dr. Jones will bring added content and substance
to the convention held in the nation's capital. This indeed will be most
symbolic as we move into the new millennium."
Proposal forms will be in issues of NAEA News in late spring and early
summer 1998; the deadline will be mid-summer. Hotel registration forms
will also be in News late summer and early fall of 1998. Delegates and
presenters are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment. The
dates for the Washington NAEA convention are March 24-28, 1999.
