When I had the opportunity to get a new art room a few years ago, one of
the things on my wish list was direct access to the outdoors and a paved
patio area with benches. I thought it would be great to be able to take
a class directly outdoors for sketching from a model, or landscape
studies, or to construct large sculptures, etc. I had lots of ideas. I
got exactly what I asked for. Except my paved patio is in a courtyard
that is only about 20 feet wide - which means when I take students out,
they are right outside the windows of Chemistry and French classrooms. I
have nothing but bricks and shrubs to look at (no landscapes, and my
school is out in the country with farms and woods surrounding it). So we
seldom use it because it disturbs the other classrooms...
