Hi!
Just for the record, I teach 25 classes a week, 5 a day, 45 minutes each
with 5 minutes in between. There are over 630 students in grades 3-5. We
have tried many sceduling processes over the years. At one time, all the
teachers would gather in a room and sign up for the times they liked
best... I believe we had 4 choices then... art, music, library, and PE.
Now we have Art, Music, PE, Computer,and Foreign Language. Library is
out of the loop... and is on a separate schedule. The teachers have
their "special" class at the same time every day. This has been dictated
by our principal, and we have the same schedule this year as last year.
Special teachers are the only ones who have noon and before school
duties along with some teacher aides.
Personally, I really miss the 55 minute periods I used to have... but
have adapted as best I can. When I talk to parents and apologise for
having less work to show them I explain that it is due to the decrease
in class time I see their children, which is the equivalent of 7 less
class periods a year. I honestly would rather spend my time teaching the
kids rather than doing playground duty... but that is not a very popular
attitude :)
