Melissa, I don't know how old this message is since I don't remember seeing the
original, so forgive me if this is repeat information. One of my professors
gave us a booklet from the Getty Center called "Perspective on Education
Reform: Arts Education as Catalyst." The copy right date is 1993. It is full
of supporting statements for art education. It is 565 pages long. The address
in my booklet is:
Getty Center for Education in the Arts
401 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 950
Santa Monica, California 90401-1455
Personally I also feel a strong arguement can be made for art as a vehicle for
media education. With all the visual images we are bombarded with today,
students are in vital need of the skills with which to interpret them. I can't
think of a better background for media education than the art room.
Hope this helps.
