A state-wide committee of art teachers, administrators, university faculty,
museum education representatives, and state department representatives has
just completed the CT Standards for the Visual Arts for K-12. As was noted
in RAdams 2/10/97 posting, the process was and continues to be quite a
laborous adventure, as was the case in Delaware. However, in the end, we
know that it will be well worth our efforts.

Those teachers involved in the writing process have been very receptive to
the CT student standards. Their comments have included the fact that the
state standards are much easier to read and are much more "user-friendly"
than the National Standards. Because they have solicited comments and
recommendations from others in their districts, I believe that the teachers
have taken ownership in the standards and value the entire process.

Presently, our standards are out for national review and we are looking
forward to the reviewers comments.

Respectfully submitted,
