National Standards for Arts Education

The National Standards for Arts Education were jointly developed
by the National Art Education Association, the American Alliance
for Theatre & Education, the Music Educators National
Conference, and the National Dance Association. Detailed
information about them may be found on ArtsEdge at
http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org/dsgntool.html #stand
and
http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org/forms/arts1.html

I know some people find them too vague and others are afraid
they are too prescriptive, so I invite you to explore them. It
is my understanding that the existence of national standards for art
validates the idea that the arts are equal in value to other
areas of study. I do think that there are some states that are
using the national standards as a basis for their own. If anyone
on ArtsEdNet is involved in such a process, I invite you to
share your experiences.
