My 7-12 school is considering making changes in our semester test
procedures. Previously, we have had two days of extended periods (90 min.)
at the end of each semester. Teachers in "academic subjects" (whatever that
means--it's what the handbook says) were required to have a comprehensive
final test, project or presentation. This event or document is worth 20% of
the semester grade.

We have decided that the semester testing system is inappropriate for
junior high students. Some on our staff feel that they are also
inappropriate for high school students, especially in some subjects.

Do you give semester tests? Are they required in all subjects? How do final
evaluations compare with daily grades or evaluations?

Thanks for info., Nancy Sojka
