To anyone on the listserve who has worked in fresco, I would like to pose the
question of how to do small scale fresco on panels with high school art
classes. I found an article in Daniel Smith's "Inksmith" publication but it
involves constructing frames with lath wire--something pretty involved. I
have heard of a teacher who was doing "cave paintings" on sections of drywall
that had been peeled of one side of the paper covering. This seems like a
possible solution but I know that traditionally pigments are mixed into the
plaster in fresco. I want to give students as authentic an art experience as
I possibly can without creating a monster production problem.
I was thinking of using the Minoan culture for historical basis as I have
many wonderful videotapes I took in the Athens museum, Akrotiri, and the
museum in Iraklion on Crete. Any suggestions out there??
