Looking for a book

20 years ago my art professor read to us from a book. It was about
the models that artists painted. I thought that it was called
"Painted Ladies" or something like that. There were wonderful stories
about our favorite models. (i.e., the woman painted in Botticelli's
Birth of Venus died at a very young age. It was said that she was too
beautiful to live in this life.) Does anyone know of a book like this?
