Our art criticism class at the Univ. of Maryland uses the book by Tony
Barrett, "ART CRITICISM"

For an inclass project last week we each brought in reproductions
(prints, postcards, art books, etc..) of art that we liked as well as one we
didn't like. Then our professor had write about it using the format that
T. Barrett lays out in "ART CRITICISM" :

1. Description writing about the piece

2. Interpretation writing about the piece.

3. Preference/Judgement writing about the piece.

We found his textbook a valuable and useful tool to use as a guide in
learning to write art criticism.
