I am an artist and educator currently involved in reexamining the nature of
the B.F.A. foundation courses on our campus. I would like to pose the
following question to those of you who have been educated as artists and/or
are involved in programs that supposedly prepare young artists for
potential careers in the studio:
If you were going to set up your own program to provide a training ground
for potential young artists (ages 18-21) and you didn't have to work within
the traditional academic format, would your program look different than
those that you have experienced in the undergraduate academic world? If so,
I would specifically like to know what changes you would make.
Any input will be appreciated. I will be at the CAA/FATE meetings in Boston
and hope to talk with some of you there.
