My 5 year old is an artist-- she is using the matterials at hand to
communicate her own personal message. She may not yet be widely
known or have a dealer to promote her works, but she is an artist.
Just ask her--she is proud to announce this to any and all who will
listen. Art is a language--I believe this to be true--and that is
how I approach art with my students. I am willing to say that there
are some artists who are better than others and I feel that some have
expressed their message so well that ALL who see it understand. My
students experience art from Paleolithic to Post-modern and can
recognize these examples as a language -- a persons desire to
communicate.

What do you think?
