middle school teachers

Date: Wed Feb 26 2003 - 04:26:24 PST

I am currently student teaching and I am on my last 7 weeks. It has been an
experience so far. I just started a middle school on monday. The teacher is
amazing and
the students love her. I was wondering how many middle school teachers run
their classroom
in this manner. The students have about 3 projects to choose from. Once they
have one finished they have choice projects to do. This means students are
working on many different things, clay, painting, drawing, paper machie,
sewing, scrapbooking ect. If they make their choice project for a gift they
get extra credit. So far the kids seem to really like the class structured
like this. They are responsible for their project, time frame, and clean up.
If they aren't working they do get an E for the day. The responsibility is
left on the student. I haven't experienced this before so of course its new
to me. I just wondered how many art teachers do this??? I think its great
that the students choose what they want to experiment with and they choose
where they are going to work. Its a nice comfy atmosphere as well.
