I guess it depends on what you feel a sketchbook is all about. An artist
needs to observe the world around and record what he or she sees but an
artist also needs to reflect his inner world. I think it would be much better
to strike a balance between
observation and imagination. If I limited my own sketchbooks to what I
observe directly I would have only a partial picture of the world as I
experience it. I produce Contemporary Sculptural Silver Hollowware and none
of this exists in the world of others until my ideas percolate through my
sketches.
