It sounds like you are being reasonable, but being more restrictive would be okay (in my opinion). A teacher's restrictions may seem like censorship, but it is important to let students know what we value. Life itself must be valued above all. It may be best not to display any of this particular assignment (even other subject matter) in the hallway (to avoid any fairness issues).
