Block Scheduling at Middle School Level--Suggested Models?

Our administration keeps TALKING about putting our school on a block schedule
or flexible schedule, but no one seems to know how to plan it. I would be
interested in hearing about how you (art teachers) like it and how it is
implemented in your building.

I have heard of some models where the academics are 90 minutes long, but art
and music stay at 45 minutes. That does not sound like an improvement if you
have a long project planned.

For those of you who did switch to block scheduling, how many years did it
take to get the plan from the drawing board to implementation?

Thanks for any information you can give me. If you feel that this topic is
not relevant to the majority of the art teachers who read the list, feel free
to e-mail me at JKGibb1@aol.com.
