There is a really interesting book called Picasso and Photography --the
dark mirror by Anne Baldassari, isbn 2-08013-646-1. It shows his light
writing experiments, as well as many, many photos. He used photos heavily
in his drawings and paintings. Sometimes he uses photos to work on the
composition of his paintings, and to record the works in progress. Many
of his drawings come from posed photos. His space drawings were made with
two cameras operating simultaneously--sometimes one in black and white and
one in color, sometimes from two separate angles--sometimes luminous
trails were recorded in a dark room, sometimes intermittent flashes of
light recorded the artist at work and his expression as he works as well
as the drawing. He also played with cutout photos, and scratched into
slides with an x-acto knife to manipulate the images. He also colored and
drew on photos. There is a great one of him with little Julius Caesar
headpiece and toga. Sid
