I consider myself a mom/wife first, teacher second and artist third. This is
based on the amount of time I spend on each based on values. The reason I
became a teacher was so I could be involved more with the lives of my family.
As a designer for 15 years prior to teaching, I was always working or
frequenting shows, openings etc. It is quite a life, especially in Chicago
where I lived till 7 years ago. But it almost cost me my family! I still
work many -many hours at school and continue at home till the weeee hours in
the morning however- I now am a big participant in my children's lives. I
coach my daughter's soccer team and still cart her around "where-ever"
(she'll start driving this summer). I follow my son around with his sports
(Senior Little League Team ranked 8th in the World this past summer). Those
of you with teens know what I am talking about. I am also very active in
school as the yearbook advisor and the only high school art teacher. Anyway,
I like it like this -at the moment. My kids are growing up sooooo fast! I
must be there for them- whether to help them with their studies or comfort
them with their troubles. Once my children leave the nest and are on their
own, I will have a bit of my artistic life back. I hope to go on a retreat-
perhaps somewhere in Europe to paint or sculpt- we'll see. I love my life
now but also look forward to my life ahead.
