Hi All,
Just this week, during a perspective lesson, I came up with a plan for
4th and 5th grade and eraser abuse. I tell them at the beginning of the
class that they are each getting an eraser. ( one magic rub cut in 1/2)
They are to treat it like their baby.
" would you put your baby on a dirty floor ?? "
"then don't let your eraser go on the dirty floor ! "
also
Would you poke your baby with a pencil.... (or fling it off the end of a
ruler)
then don't poke your eraser with a pencil !!! ( I hate to get erasers back
with pencil points broken in them arghhhhhhhhh !!!! )
Some even had wrapped thier paper towel around their eraser baby just to play
along. ( too funny )
same goes for rulers, no banging no hitting no tapping ... rulers are very
quiet creatures... keep them that way !!!
At the end of the class on their way out the door they each must hand me
their eraser. That way they know I really look them over. It's working so
far.

The only having stubby grungy pencils around is also a great motivator for
them to bring their own pencils or take care of mine that I lend out.

nice to have all of those kindred spirits out there to conspire with ;)
hope this helps,
Christine B. :)
