Re: Inappropriate use of art supplies--elementary level

Date: Tue Feb 05 2002 - 18:39:05 PST

One thing I finally did, was to buy pencils and erasers for each table for
each class. I have 3 classes of 25-7 fifth graders. Each class has three
tables (made for 6) of 8-9 students each. I bought each table their own 9
pencils and 4 erasers. Each group had a special basket. At the end of each
period they are responsible for counting the pencils and supplies and handing
them to me. A few times one table or another didn't care about counting and
checking. I found pencils on the floor after they left. I put them aside
for when they complained. The next week that table complained that someone
had been using their pencils. I produced the two that had been left on the
floor and told them again, that no one-no one but they used those pencils in
that basket. No problem ever since, at least with that problem in those
classes. Scissors, scrap paper, white drawing paper, markers? That's another

Good luck
