After telling 3rd graders a little about Egyptian culture, including the
practice of mummification of their pets, we made "Egyptian mummified" cats.
I found photos online of such mummies. Using terra cotta, they made 4-5 inch
long mummy shapes with cat faces. After firing, used black Sharpies to add
facial details. Then a coat of Mod Podge gloss. And last, using raffia,
wrapped body in a criss crossed "mummy" wrap, tacking the back with hot glue.
They looked great and the kids loved the whole process.
