I was recently at a meeting of a parent advocate group in our town. One of
the parents there worked at Columbia University. He said that these days,
proficiancy in the arts and languages is what sets students apart from other
students. He said that college aps that demonstrate study/achievement in the
arts (voice, instrument, or fine art) are the applications that will get that
extra bump, even above achievements in sports.
I think if parents/students/counselors were aware of this...there might be a
huge change in attitude re: art classes.
