Lisa:
I saw this at a current county fair from a middle school. Have them make
a circular stencil with six cut out shapes. Say palm trees and palm grass,
I'm from florida, so we're into the environmental stuff. After they cut the
stencil, have them outline the the three palm trees and the three palm
grasses and have them make a color wheel with tempera paint of the three
primary color and the three secondary colors on the color wheel. They can do
this with anything they like, say the outline of cartoon figures or cars. The
background would be black.
Also paintings of triangles (all types) done in monochromes with a black
background.
You can do it with squares or rectangles.
Also have them take a picture of themselves on a digital camera and do it
up on photoshop to make a solarization. Then have them blow up the image on a
transparency and do a watercolor drawing of themselves. It will be very
computerish.
