Deb- The easiest idea I use in summer camp is sand candles.
I buy blocks of paraffin, use boxes full of old crayon pieces sorted into
basic colors.
I live in Fla. so in one trip, I go to the beach and get a pail of shells,
scoop up a small garbage can full of sand. Haul it back to school.Melt the
wax in an old aluminum pot on an electric single burner stove. have the kids
take their fists and make a hole in the sand and decorate the edge with
shells. Poke a wick into the center and tie it with a string to pencil laid
across the top of the sand. Teacher pours the hot wax into the candle with an
old small pot or an old ladle. Let it set up, cool at least one hour, pop it
out with your hands and Viola'- Super sand candles.
