My understanding is that the Brooklyn Museum is funded by NYC monies and that
his honor is responding politically to the powerful forces that he plays like
a finely tuned instrument. Looks like the Museum wins this round with an
increase in attendance and national acclaim. Sounds nothing like a First
Amendment problem, no one should tell New Yorkers how to spend their money
... or whether or not they should fund a museum that falls short of their
expectations. The mayor will walk this tightrope, gathering political capital
and keeping one of his finer museums on the front page. Guiliani ranks right
up there with the 'Little Flower', in my book, and they have run out of
airports to name after him... as long as they keep having these great
controversial shows in Brooklyn. Peter.
