Jayna Ledbetter wrote regarding "can't draw
a straight line":

<< Don't you just hate that expression!
It is always used when someone wants
me to do something for them (you
know, since I am the art teacher
and I have all this extra time)
"I thought I'd ask you to do it for us,
you know, since I can't draw a straight
line!" I ALWAYS say- "Me neither,
I use a ruler!" >>

Wonderful! At most jobs I've had, I try
to almost keep it a secret that I have
any art talent. You immediately become
a target for those, "Can you draw me
this 'real quick'?" requests.

A teacher came into the art room and
told me about her students and wanting
to have some mattes cut for their photo

I responded cheerfully and immediately with,
"Certainly, just tell me when
a good time is for them to visit."
I put the onus on this teacher
and, of course (perhaps), she hasn't
returned to the art room.

Often people want to find someone to take
advantage of. I'm happy to help someone
who will take some responsibility and not
just someone who is looking to pawn off
that responsibility and work.
