I always reply, drawing a straight line is NOT a requirement of being an
artist! In my university Art Education course (required for all Elementary
Ed. majors, who are usually nervous about having to take an art class), on
the first night of class I hand out pieces of neon colored tag board, 2" x
12". I have the students draw their choice of lines (wavy, zigzag, etc.) on
both long edges and cut on the lines. Then I tell them, "There! Now your
ruler for this art class has no straight edges, so you don't have to worry
about drawing a straight line!" This usually breaks the ice and we go on
from there! --Lisa in SD

ALWAYS say- "Me neither, I use a ruler!" >>
