Found object sculpture is great for all ages (just change the materials). I
make a point of NOT having enough of each type of thing to go around (cuts
down of identical things being made). It sparks the "I can't do art" kids,
and the kids all ready open to art really get creative.

Try finding the book called CONCOCTIONS. This is an old book that shows
to make art materials such as sidewalk chalk. Tell the kids to wash and
all their egg shells and allow them to really dry out. The book will give
you the directions as it's been so long since I made it that I have
the recipe. At any rate........the children bring in smooth RIVER ROCKS and
take their 15-20 eggshells outside on the walkway and start to grind them
down with their river rock until they make a smooth
SHELL POWDER of all things...........then adding liquid to the powder they
knead the powder into fat stick and wrap it in a single ply paper towel to
dry. Set the chalk sticks in a sunny window and let them
harden...........another day they can use them................THE
KINDERGARTEN KIDS loved it and of course then the "playground peekers" all
wanted to do it the next time they came to art. The book is fun to have on
