I was beginning a lesson on masks in ceramics. Students looked at masks of
different cultures and had started to build them using a slab over a face
form. The next day one of my Arabic students told me that she was not
allowed to do the assignment because it involved the face. This is a Muslim
girl who wears a head covering. Can anyone think of an alternate assignment
that would not be too different. The girl was rather embarrassed and doesn't
want to be noticed.
