What I meant was, instead of mixing up a "goop" of glue w/ink combo you just
use
ONLY QUALITY TEMPERA PAINT - I put it in the glue bottles !!! That's it, no
glue, no ink, nothing else !
When I do kids that will be entering contests for sure with the piece I put
some of my black acrylic in the bottle,
it's smoother and clots less and much more permanent. But the main idea is
the great, large, simple effect of
the crazy contour glue lines, such character @!
I just finished this lesson with a hundred or more kids. They look great.
The bottles still clot some so shaking bottle
before using (with finger over lid is a must) and I keep some plastic
needles about to unclot them. Also, sometimes I take off all the orange lids
(Big hint - Elmers glue bottles only) to soak them and put a needle through
them.
One thing that happened to one childs picture this year though, and it was a
pretty good one. ALL of the paint flaked
off ! I don't know why, perhaps that particular mix of tempera was thin or
mostly the 'gel'. Not sure. Or else perhaps, after 3 years of doing this
tempera only method the residual glue (that used to be in the bottles is
running out), so perhaps I still have a bit of glue left in each bottle. But
I'm not so sure that is it. Anyway, this totally flaked picture looks like a
lovely ink wash on all the outlines. But this will be difficult for a young
one to paint as the beauty of the black "glue" idea is that they can feel
the borders of the colored area. (like little 'lakes' that hold the pocket
of pastel or watercolor in)
