I have been reading all the wonderful e-mails regarding the Lascaux Cave
Art-of which I also partake--and would love to make a "cave" for furthering
student growth in knowledge and excitement in art learning--but--know that
the superintendent of our school just had the fire dept. visit at the Middle
School to observe a "rain forrest" that had been created by the 6th graders.
It was made with hanging leaves/vines off of chicken wire with a lot of TLC
--parent help in constructing animals and birds of the rain forrest. They
were told to take it down immediately--There were needless to say-many
disappointed and upset people and the community effort and feeling
evaporated--I myself get tired of the pale colors of the school walls -Surely
the environment would look a lot more creative and stimulating if there were
rainbows/flower gardens etc. -I get razed a lot for taping and trying to make
creative displays- The maintenance is concerned that the tape filament will
prevent paint coverage-or take the paint off the wall. Cork strips have been
installed in some of the schools--but stapling in a "straight line" to me
-lacks creativity!!!---Arent there any articles of support that we can show
to show justification and make the environments better?--If anyone knows of
articles I would appreciate your help!-*Sometimes I feel like I have "hit the
wall" in the pursuit trying to show creativity -THANKS
