I teach in three public schools, all in the same region, all with the same
curriculum. There are six K-8 schools and one 9-12 school in the region.
However, they each have their own Board of Ed, and they each have their own
budgets.
I am very fortunate and feel my schools are all fairly generous, yet I also
get parent donations of recycled stuff, and I am a notorious scrounge. Also,
I still find myself chipping in out of my own pocket for a few things I
forget to order each year.
At one K-8 school I get about $24 per student. At the other K-8 school I get
about $10 per student. I only teach drawing at the 9-12 school so it isn't a
fair comparison, but there I get about $7 per student.
The hard part comes when we put together the region wide art shows. The
difference in budgets shows. My guess is that my $24 school is the highest,
and my $10 school is one of the lowest in the region. The other art teachers
in the region hold their cards very close to their vests.
I hope my administrations and Boards of Ed aren't lurking in artsednetland!
