To all - it is getting time to create my budget for my k-5 and HS art
classes. Each
year I am cut back further and further. Last year I found $200.00 worth of
recyclable
paper from printing companies. Some really large and at least 90 lb. white.
Anyway
told the administrative that I had saved the district this money and they
gave me
$100.00 less to spend!!! Won;t brag about my "saving them money" again. They
will expect it again next year and it might not be available!! I have no
storage space and the art room is expected to be as neat as any other room in
the building so can't store most recyclables. The super says "just ask for
the item
you need and have the child bring it in" Right - weeks later or never!
So it seems that I am allowed about $2.25 per child per year. They bring some
basic supplies such as Prang paints, glue, pencils (sometimes) markers or
colored pencils - I try for other supplies but parents balk. What is the
average
allowed per child by school districts? I';m sure my /$2.25 looks good to some
art teachers with tighter budgest but maybe they are allowed to use
recyclables
to advantage. Any thoughts out there - I'm going to have to ask parents to
send
more art supplies next year. Tried sending a second semester supply list out
just before Christmas break - "please check your childs art supplies and
replace those that are lost or used up" - it worked for some and bombed for
alot. One child,
bless his overachieving parents. purchased all new supplies. Suggestions
anyone
on how to get the administration to understand the need for money for
supplies?
Thanks Roberta
