    My jr. high students seem to have no concept of size. I will try very often
    to allow them to chose the size paper for the project. I give each student a
    Post-It note, they write their name and the size requested. They want to
    just hold up their hands and say this long and this wide. I cut the paper
    and return to the student, actually the surprised student. They will often
    say this is not the size I wanted. I'll tell them, "but that is what you
    requested, see."

    We did grid drawings last year and that was a nightmare from the beginning.
    I was as if none of them had any idea how to use a ruler to measure or draw a
    line.
