Thank you, Larry, and others on the list, for your insights.
The teacher is not alone. My district has the "we have a right to censor
your mail" attitude and threat structure as well. In fact, it insists that
every aspect of a teacher's life is a matter of Public Record, and publish
it does. The face the school officials like to show to the public is not
the face the teachers see when the public isn't looking. This also applies
to sick leave. What?.... one of our "draft mules" gets sick--shoot
it(making sure the sub plans are done first). Recently the school board
and teachers association signed a three year contract which put limitations
and stipulations as to who constitutes an employee's "immediate family,"
for purposes of approving sick or personal leave. Anyone out there see the
dangers lurking in that?
