I agree with involvement, honesty and seeing sides of the kids that even
their parents' don't see. However, I do not give out my home phone
number on a syllabus. I am 25 years old and teaching High School. I do
not want to create any issues for myself of "appropriateness". However,
I have given it to individual students who are in my "Advanced" classes
under certain and individual circumstances. I do not see a problem with
this at all! But being unmarried and a fairly new teacher, giving it to
all students would make me nervous....more about the administrative
perspective than what the students would do with it.
