Yes to everything Bunki said, except that I remember everything you all
wear! Oh yes, I just wanted to mention that Sax will have two drawings for
$500 in Binney and Smith products. Be sure to get the coupon out of the
convention booklet. We also will have the neon nametags for artsednetters.
I know that some of you suggested some other alternatives but some liked the
neon tags. Since we have 500 left, I'll be bringing those. BTW I am getting
products selected for the convention. If anyone wants to suggest a
particular product for me to include, send me a private e mail and I will
try to include your suggested product. Thanks and I look forward to seeing
you all. Judy

I smile bigtime when I think of what I must have looked like the first NAEA
convention going home. I had 4 posters, boxes of crayons, paints, books, a
mask, a sculpture, tons of freebees, a shoulder bag, and three
suitcases...one of which held just "stuff". I was a walkin' artstore. I
think most people tend to lean this way....especially packrat art teachers
who won't pass up anything free.
I've solved most of my problem in the succeeding conventions with buying a
large suitcase with an expandable top perfect for those odds and ends you
collect....and being a bit more picky about what finally goes in it the last
night there. I weed before I leave. So does my roommate. We finally have a
big stash of "stuff" in the mid. of the room to be left behind.....like
little pamphlets, crayon samples, etc. I think it's just a process everyone
has to go through to know what will be actually used and what won't.
Also.....dress "comfy". Forget about packing those high heels and dresses
and cute jackets. You'll get dirty in some of those workshops. You'll also
be sitting on things you wouldn't normally be sitting on because they'll be
lots of people around. Bring jeans or slacks, sweatshirts or blouses (you
can wear them 2-5 times 'cause nobody remembers) and FLAT shoes. Lots of
walking and "carrying" things. A big shoulder bag helps. Plan on layers.
Sometimes the rooms are freezing, sometimes too hot and you always wind up
next to a vent.
BRING A CAMERA!!! BRING A CAMERA!!! BRING A CAMERA!!!
Bring snacks. If the room has a fridge, it's usually filled with high priced
yummies and it's hard not to sit there and just drool.
Have a pad and pencil for note-taking...either ideas, notes, or addresses. I
always forget that one. Fortunately my roommate always lends me one.
Don't forget a watch and alarm clock. I forgot a watch one year and nearly
had a breakdown!
Did I mention...bring a camera?! Add lots of film.
Bring self-addressed stickers or those address labels you have lying around
the house getting in the way. These are perfect for slapping on those "fill
in your name" things you order or want sent...or just to trade with all your
new friends.
Plan on meeting lots of new people and making great contacts with suppliers.
Don't be shy!
Pack your "patience" too. You'll need that for all those lines. Toodles.....
