To Colleagues in Art around the World,
I have just heard that the new government in St. Petersburg, Russia, has increased its city rates to such an extent that the International Children's Academy of Art situated in that city is threatened with closure. The Academy has been in operation for ten years. Its teaching staff are dedicated and enthusiastic professionals and, consequently, the art and craft work produced by its students can only be described as exceptional.
I believe that there is a slim chance that the Academy may be saved, but only if art educators around the world write letters of support and ask that the Academy be classified as "an establishment of social and educational significance". If anyone is generous enough to wish to do this, would they please contact me at perry and I would be happy to provide more details - including addressees and suggested content of the letter.
As you may imagine, there is some urgency about this, so you would have to contact me no later than, say, February 9.
Thank you for reading this.
