I also use film canisters as a handle for homemade stamps. Because we have
so many students with disabilities, we also use them for other ways. You can
glue two canisters to a ruler at each end. That way it is easier for a
person who has very limited use of the other hand/arm to hold the ruler and
use the better hand to draw the line. You also can stick a pencil, etc. into
the side of the canister, making an excellent T shaped handle, a much easier
way for the physically disabled to grasp a pencil.
Or, you could do what I have been doing this last few weeks. My middle
school students have been making creatures inspired by Oaxacan woodcarvings
out of papier maché, tissue paper and recycled junk - a great way of getting
rid of an overflowing junk cabinet!
