Subject: 4-year-old resistance to making marks on paper
For what it's worth....
I had a similar experience when my son was young.
I wanted him to draw and be creative and he had no interest. It even got to the point where he would cry and not even pick up a tool to draw with anymore.
I decided to let it go, he had other areas of interest (playing with trucks, legos, bugs).
In the meantime I had a daughter (4 now) who LOVES to draw and color :-) a bit too much sometimes like the walls all the way up the stairs with crayon...( I now have a special area for her in the playroom where she can draw on the walls)
And now that my son is 7 he loves to draw dinosaurs and pokemon. He likes the "How To Draw" books, wants them to be perfect.
But he also had a lot of trouble with his handwriting for the first half of 1st grade! Luckily he has a teacher who has spent a lot of time working with him and it looks pretty good now.
Just my experience,
thanks for all the great discussion on the list!!!!
