If you look in the Artsednet Archives (if they still work, haven't tried
them recently with the changes in this listserv) and search under "murals"
you should find a prior discussion on this topic.

As to sketchbooks, I too check them every Monday for 10% of their overall
grade. I've tried giving specific assignments as well as having them
choose their subjects, etc. Not a lot of effort is put into this, but I
don't want to give up because I feel sketchbooks are an important part of
the visual arts. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
